Settling In.

So the beginning of my D.C. experience is turning out to be much more interesting than I ever thought it would be. After taking Amtrak across the country (yes, Amtrak) to Chicago, we missed our connection to D.C. by one minute. Literally. One minute. But it ended up being ok! We got to spend an entire day with Alyssa in Chicago, and honestly that was fantastic. If I take Amtrak across the country again, that's definitely how I'm going to plan it!

But so after we get onto the train in Chicago I get a call from my mom about the shipping company which is bringing all of our stuff our here. The long and short of it is that there was a GINORMOUS misunderstanding between all of us. They weren't shipping our things until the day we moved in instead of having it there within a couple days after our arrival. What this means is that while we got into D.C. on Tuesday, it is now the following Monday and we still have absolutely NOTHING in our apartment. No internet, no tv, no beds, no real dishes or silverware, no cooking utensils.. NOTHING. While this has made for an interesting week of food and entertainment, we're all getting tired of going to Starbucks for two hours of free internet per day. Why no internet in the apartment at least? Because Comcast screwed up too. When they came out to install everything, while they were unable to install cable because we don't have our tv yet, they didn't bring a modem for the internet, so we're out internet/cable until this Thursday! Oh man what an entrance to D.C.

On the brighter side, orientation was on Friday, and I got to meet the other students in the program. They all seem really neat and I'm really looking forward to taking classes with all of them. Speaking of classes, I registered today and I'll be taking the two required courses (Analysis of Political Data and Approaches and Topics in American Politics) as well as two others: Psychology and Politics and Executive Branch Politics and Policy Making. It's going to be a lot of work, but they sound like fantastic classes, and I can't wait to start. First day is tomorrow!

Otherwise, I'll be commuting about 30-45mins a day each direction total, which really isn't bad at all, and it'll give me some down time which I think I might appreciate once it gets started.

Also, the swimming pool at my apartment complex isn't shutting down until October! This means I'll have about one more month of swimming at home than I had originally planned!

Now that life is calming down I'll do my best to keep you all updated. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and I'll let you know how everything goes as I get further into this!

Until next time,
